In 2050 more than 150 million suffering from Dementia? How to work against this...
During the latest Alzheimer Association International Conference (AAIC21) held in Chicago, July26-30,2021 scientists working in the field of Alzheimer/Dementia Research from all over the world confirmed that age related cognitive decline (like dementia and Alzheimer) is one of our largest, if not THE largest health problems we are facing. Today we have approximately 50 million people suffering from dementia. In only 30 years from now, this number will have triplicated to over 150 million people. A strong correlation between dementia and lack of exercise, overweight and consequential diabetes was confirmed.
The researchers reminded us that even though we cannot stop fully this age-related brain shrinkage and onset of dementia, we do have the possibility to slow it down and to delay its onset by up to 7 years. The secret is: Nutrition. Give your brain on a daily basis, all nutrients it needs to repair cell damage, detoxify and rebuild new brain cells. Such nutrients are:
- DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, Omega-3 fatty acids): from fish or algae sources
- Vitamin B6, B12 and Folic Acid: essential “brain vitamins”. Important also to remove accumulated homocysteine from the brain cells. Mainly present in meat, milk, eggs, fish and in general marine products.
- Vitamin C and Vitamin E: antioxidants found in many fruits, oils, nuts
- Polyphenols: found in green vegetables, green tea, Ginkgo biloba extract, Shisandra extract, and many more
