New study adds to the increasing body of evidence that red blood cell omega-3 DHA concentrations are inversely linked to the development of Alzheimer and all-cause dementia.

So here is one more observational study [1] published in 2022, involving 1,490 dementia-free subjects, aged 65 years and more (Framingham Offspring Cohort) showing that those participants having a DHA concentration of 6,1% and more in their red blood cell membranes have an almost 50% reduction in the risk of developing all-cause dementia, compared to those participants of the same study with a DHA concentration of only 3,8% or below. The scientists calculated that the subjects with the higher DHA concentration in their red blood cells have an extra 4.7 years of life without any onset of dementia symptoms. A follow-up study, published in 2015 [2], using the data collected in the VITACOG study conducted by the Oxford University in the UK in 2010, concluded that the combination of DHA and B-vitamins (B-6, B-12 and folic acid) was able to reduce the speed of age-related brain shrinkage and thus development of dementia up to 70%.

Everyone can reduce their own risk of developing early all-cause dementia/Alzheimer. It´s in our own hands. Simply reduce the amount of food rich in arachidonic acid (omega-6), mainly found in all land-based animals and their products (red meat, butter, eggs, milk, cheese) and replace cheap vegetable oils (sunflower oil, corn oil, soybean oil, …) by virgin olive oil. Increase your daily intake of omega-3 (DHA and EPA) rich marine food (fatty fish, mussels, squid, algae, etc.) and/or take a high-quality DHA-supplement delivering between 750 and 150 mg DHA per day. Needless to say, stop smoking and increase your daily intake of vegetables and fruit.

Finally, studies have also shown that a daily walk of 20-40 min not only reduces your cardiovascular risk, increases your mobility and fitness, it also reduces the risk of developing early onset of all-cause dementia.

We suggest following supplement combination to support a normal brain function:

  • 1 to 2 softgels VitalOils1000 per day
  • 1 HomocysteineFormula PLUS tablet per day.

Preferably taken together with your dinner.
